Oscar Peterson and NHOP
Oscar has always been one of my biggest piano heroes and a huge inspiration to me. Since I was a kid I've spent thousands of hours listening to his recordings . I got a chance to see him play live too. When I was thirteen my parents took me to Buffalo to see Oscar play a solo piano concert. I got his autograph and my picture taken with him after the show. It made quite an impression on me!
This is Oscar playing live in 1979 with Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass . The tune is Soft Winds. I love the duo setting because the clarity and precision of Oscar's articulation really stand out and sparkle here. For another great version of this tune, check out the album Digital at Montreux , one of Oscar's best recordings in my opinion and some of the most frightening piano playing you'll ever hear!
